Hakomi UK Summer residential

I am delighted to write to you with information and booking details for the 2020 UK Hakomi residential. It will take place from Saturday 11th to Thursday 16th July in the lovely surroundings of the Sheldon Retreat Centre in Devon. It will be lead by Senior Hakomi Trainers Caroline Braham and Trudy Johnston.

The residential, like the UK trainings, will be multi-level so it will be relevant to those with some experience of Hakomi and those who are new to the method.

The gathering will be another wonderful opportunity for us to deepen our Hakomi practice together, enjoy each other’s company and celebrate and develop our Hakomi community in the UK. In addition, we will be able to enjoy the beautiful and extensive grounds at Sheldon in full summer. As during the three previous residentials, we anticipate that some participants will offer workshops and experiences for us to enjoy during the long summer evenings.

We run the residential as an offering to the Hakomi community, not primarily for payment and having already paid a deposit to Sheldon for our booking. If you know you are going to attend we would find it uplifting and helpful for our planning if you would pay your deposit through the early bird scheme by 31st January 2020.

Accommodation and payment

Accommodation at Sheldon is in twin bedded rooms. Bedding and towels will be provided. 

The price for accommodation, tuition and food is £730 if you make an early bird booking and pay a non-refundable deposit of £280 before 31st January 2020. The balance of £450, also non-refundable, will be due by Friday 10th April 2020. 

From 1st February 2020, the price for the residential will go up to £780. After paying a non-refundable deposit of £280, the balance of £500, also non-refundable, is due by Friday 10th April 2020.   

If you and another person making a booking would like to share a room together, please indicate this on the booking form.

There will be an option to camp in the grounds, on a first booked-first served basis, but only if all the indoor accommodation gets taken up. So, if you would prefer to camp, please book for indoor accommodation first, and indicate on the booking form that you would like to camp. If camping does become available it will cost £530 or £580 per person, depending on when you make your initial booking, which will include tuition and food. If the house becomes full, I will contact each person who wants to camp in the order in which they have booked. 

Four people will cook at the residential. The meals will be simple and vegetarian with the flexibility to be vegan. As we will be living as a community for the duration of the residential it is expected that participants will participate from time to time in some of the tasks which need to be done such as clearing up and washing up after meals.

Arrival is from 4pm on Saturday 11th July. Sessions will start at 10am on Sunday morning 12th July. Departure is after 4pm on Thursday 16th July. 

You are welcome to stay at Sheldon on the evening of Thursday 16th July. If so, we ask that you take responsibility for your meal on the Thursday evening and breakfast on the Friday morning. You would need to leave Sheldon by 9.30am on the Friday morning, after helping with any clear-up that is needed in the public spaces before departure.

Sheldon is 9 miles south west of Exeter close to Dartmoor. Exeter has an airport and it has good rail and road links with the rest of the country.
